SNS for Fashion Gurus.

As you all know, January is the month for Fashion Galore, it is when all the most elite and rich clients and designers come together for the New York's Autumn-Winter 2010 Fashion Week.

Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein and most of the amazingly talented designers in the whole world are part of the most famous micro-blogging social networking site in the whole world. TWITTER! Imagine, 24/7 updates from designers, models, stage producers and fashion press whilst the fashion show is going on.

A big tweet screen having been installed by American Express in the entrance of the ready-to-wear shows take place. For example ; ["Just arrived at (designer Vera) Wang. White setup," write NARSissist] To many, this is such an exciting feature as not everyone gets to enter the fashion show. This itself could be considered Gold, being able to know what was going in a fashion show at the very moment it is happening.

With this step of communication, the fashion world is going to break through alot more communication boundaries and many other things linked to it. I supposed, we should give it a few months before it blows over in every manner of social networking sites.

SNS as tools for employers.

Usually, most job applicants will have a general checklist before a job interview such as updating a résumé, ironing a professional outfit, rehearsing an explanation for those two years spent bumming around after college. However, if tidying up the Facebook profile isn’t on that list, maybe it should be.

According to a new study conducted by Harris Interactive for CareerBuilder.com, 45 percent of employers questioned are using social networks to screen job candidates — more than double from a year earlier, when a similar survey found that just 22 percent of supervisors were researching potential hires on social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn.

The study, which questioned 2,667 managers and human resource workers, found that 35 percent of employers decided not to offer a job to a candidate based on the content uncovered on a social networking site. (The survey has no margin of sampling error because it was not drawn from a representative nationwide sample but rather from volunteer participants.)

The report showed that Facebook was the most popular online destination for employers to do their online sleuthing, followed by LinkedIn and MySpace. In addition, 7 percent followed job candidates on Twitter.

More than half of the employers who participated in the survey said that provocative photos were the biggest factor contributing to a decision not to hire a potential employee, while 44 percent of employers pinpointed references to drinking and drug use as red flags.

Other warning signs included bad-mouthing of previous employers and colleagues and poor online communication skills. While most of these may seem like obvious stumbling blocks, what constitutes alarming behavior to a particular employer? Would photographs of a trip to the beach be considered inappropriate? What about a racy Halloween costume? As Facebook continues to grow as an essential personal and business networking tool for most of the Web, these issues are only going to get thornier.

To be on the safe side, it’s probably wise to use the new privacy settings offered by Facebook to keep everything but the most innocuous content away from the public eye.

Cheers,
Justin

Users of the Internet hardly read up on terms and conditions on any social networking sites unless they have had a habit to do so. Do you read through them, right before you sign up to a social networking site? Are you aware of the policies that the social networking sites carry?

Through our poll of the week, we have encountered the answers for you. It is shown that around 6 persons had answered our poll. Regardless of the number, the knowledge gained from it, would be considered valuable. Out of 6, Only 1 person said they DO (YES) read through the terms and conditions before signing up on a social networking site. And the remaining 5 is divided with 3 persons stating that they SOMETIMES do read through the terms and conditions, where as 2 persons DO NOT (NO) read them at all.

Another weekly poll has helped us garner information on users using social networking sites. There will only be a few more polls up, please help us get more in-detailed information to help use with our cause.

What makes LinkedIn so different with others? As mentioned, it is solely for professional users only.
