SNS for Fashion Gurus.

As you all know, January is the month for Fashion Galore, it is when all the most elite and rich clients and designers come together for the New York's Autumn-Winter 2010 Fashion Week.

Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein and most of the amazingly talented designers in the whole world are part of the most famous micro-blogging social networking site in the whole world. TWITTER! Imagine, 24/7 updates from designers, models, stage producers and fashion press whilst the fashion show is going on.

A big tweet screen having been installed by American Express in the entrance of the ready-to-wear shows take place. For example ; ["Just arrived at (designer Vera) Wang. White setup," write NARSissist] To many, this is such an exciting feature as not everyone gets to enter the fashion show. This itself could be considered Gold, being able to know what was going in a fashion show at the very moment it is happening.

With this step of communication, the fashion world is going to break through alot more communication boundaries and many other things linked to it. I supposed, we should give it a few months before it blows over in every manner of social networking sites.

Where is your tweets? [Bahasa Malaysia version]

Have you seen a bird with blue color whichever sites you surfing? I'm sure you can remember the "Follow Me" widget along with the blue bird.

Sites like Facebook and Myspace provide the users to build their profiles, integrate useful programs in their homepage. But Twitter makes a difference! One web company with a simple service is rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about social networking site.

Jadi, apa kericau lakukan?

So what does Twitter do? It allows the users to broadcast messages to a network of contacts. Instead of sending an e-mails or text messages, one Tweet provides everything! Users send quick update to let their"followers" to know what is going on in real-time. Once users have an account in Twitter, they can invite other users to receive their Tweets. On the other hand, Tweets have limitations as it allows you to send a short messages limited to just 140 characters to avoid heavy traffic. Well, people update their status so frequently that is unnecessary to send a long message.

The most interesting feature in Twitter is users are able to "follow" whoever they want to receive the first hand news! Even top celebrities are using Twitter every second to keep in touch with their fans. Don't you think we are so lucky to have Twitter in this century?

Saya peribadi cinta Twitter!

Well, I personally love Twitter! Guess what? Even Obama & Bill Gates are using Twitter! Get yourself a Tweet before you are out of touch from the world!

Plurk.com vs Twitter.com

Link to us: http://snipurl.com/udzme

They may be the TWO (2) most popular micro-blogging social networking site of the 21st century, but ONE of them certainly knocks the other out.

VERSUS

Both very interesting piece of work for updating status and post, yet there can only be ONE that stands out. Plurk, in my opinion clearly stands out at the range of components that are offered.

1. Timeline

There is a Timeline effect that was introduced by Plurk to look a lot more interactive and interesting, where as Twitter's Timeline is not as effective and captivating as Plurk's. On Plurk, it is a whole lot more attractive as it is placed in a horizontal manner such as the picture above compared to the vertical position that Twitter offers. It was a bold move but a very productive one, as many can see. One of the many successes of Plurk. Although both Plurk and Twitter users are opened to design their background with their own interest and creativity.

2. Chat Conversations

Despite the fact that Plurk is a micro blogging social networking site, on the status updates that a person puts up, his / her peers are allowed to give their response in a form of conversation. Twitter, however, isn't quite the 'in detailed' with the feedback from other followers of a person. It is a lot more confusing compared to Plurk's form of instant feedback.

3. One-Line Messages & Emoticons

This clearly is the 'IT' factor for both Plurk and Twitter, as well as doing justice to their popularity. Both sites have one-line messages that could not exceed more than 140 words, BUT Twitter fails to have emoticons as part of the update compared to Plurk, whom allows members to be very creative with their message update and emoticons *expressions*. Bravo, don't you think?

4. Karma

This feature basically wins Plurk the crown. The Karma feature are rewards that are given to members as they update regularly and as their popularity raises. The higher your Karma is, the more popular and socialize you are. Fascinating, don't you think? It is also shown that as the Karma levels grows, more exclusive emoticons would be available for the members to use as part of their message update. Twitter clearly hasn't reach a point where they reward their members for being consistent and popular. Although Twitter is a lot more talked about, compared to Plurk.

For me, the winner would be PLURK

So what are you, Team Twitter or Team Plurk ?

Regards,

Jillian.

A
microblogging site that stands as a rival to the famous, Twitter. It is known as Plurk. Created by The A-team, it was launched on May 12, 2008. Ever since it’s launching, it has been successful to date. It has a vast growing group of fans from the Southeast Asia region, (over 31% Plurk traffic comes from Taiwan, where as over 29% comes from the Southeast Asia region).

According to Akan (1/7 of The A-team), Plurk is an etymological deconstruction of the word you love to hate.

He goes on explaining that; (1) Plurk = People + Lurk, (2) Play + Work, (3) The Acronym = People, Love, Unity, Respect, Karma, and (4) It could be a verb potential, for example how Google is used as a word, “Oh, I googled it!” / “Oh, I plurked it!”.

The view of each profile is seen as a timeline that would be updated with random status updates by the Plurk members. Other Plurk members are allowed to comment on the updates that could lead to a chat log. JavaScript is used for the scrollable timeline to be written on, where as it is renewed through AJAX.

More to come in the next chapter ; Twitter vs Plurk. Which would prevail to become the Future in microblogging?

Make sure you upload a photo with a file size of at least 450 x 450 pixel. You wouldn't want your followers click your picture with a result of pixelization. Remember, a picture speaks thousand words!

2) Make an interesting bio of yourself
Unless you are as famous as celebrity, create a bio which represent yourself in 160 characters is an effective way to attract follower. Keep it short and simple, yet creative and catchy so that someone would be interested in you. For example: My name is xxx, age 18, students, from KL. Would you follow this person?

3) Share good site
A good website that provides collection of links to the most breaking, unusual and coolest on the Internet able to retain their users or readers. As a Twitter's user, knowing how to update your status such as you gonna hit to gym or you are having BigMac is not a good way to attract followers. Spend more time on surfing any sites which people might get interested in the topic you share with. You will also become a reliable resources which can retain your regular followers.
